Joy and Happiness: The Story of Mary’s Visit to Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-56)

The story of Mary's visit to Elizabeth is one that illustrates the joy and happiness that comes with faith, hope, and love. It is a story that shows how the birth of Jesus was not only a miracle but also a source of immense joy and hope for those who believed.

The Actual Story

Mary, a young girl who had been visited by an angel and told that she was to give birth to a son, went to visit her relative Elizabeth, who was also miraculously pregnant. When Mary arrived and greeted Elizabeth, the baby in Elizabeth's womb leaped for joy, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!” (Luke 1:42).

Mary was overjoyed and responded with what is now known as the Magnificat, a hymn of praise to God. In this hymn, Mary expresses her joy and gratitude for what God has done for her and for all of His people. She sings, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior” (Luke 1:46-47).

Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months, and they likely spent much of that time talking about their experiences and rejoicing in the goodness of God. When it was time for Mary to return home, she left Elizabeth and went back to her own town, filled with joy and hope.

Moral Lesson
